Additionally, a portion of proceeds from sales of all CREED products at the boutique on Fashion’s Night Out will benefit Stand Up to Cancer (www.standup2cancer.org), a simulcast that night by ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox to raise funds to fight cancer. Stand Up to Cancer is a project of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Letter from Helen Gurley Brown

A letter of praise from legendary
editor Helen Gurley Brown in 2006

As CREED celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2010, a search of its archives reveals correspondence with legends of the 21st, 20th, 19th and 18th centuries.

One modern-day legend is the famed international editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Helen Gurley Brown. A trailblazer for women in their careers and elsewhere, Ms. Brown for decades has personified the glamour, independence and success of a national — and international — magazine editor who stays on the cutting edge of all trends. For this reason, it was CREED’s pleasure to send Ms. Brown a debut bottle of CREED Original Santal in 2006. She very kindly sent CREED a note that brought with it all of her unique style, energy and sophistication.

Commission from Queen Maria Cristina of Spain

Royal Warrant: With this paper, Queen Maria Cristina of Spain named CREED her official perfumer in 1885

As CREED celebrates its 250th year, a review of its archives reveals letters and orders from royalty, statesmen, First Ladies, champion athletes, world famous artists, legendary business chiefs, headliners and other VIPs. Among these treasures are CREED’s Royal Warrants of Appointment, papers issued by kings or queens when they named CREED their official fragrance supplier. An example is CREED’s royal warrant from Queen Maria Cristina of Spain, the great niece of Marie Antoinette of France.

Queen Maria Cristina aspired to make a style statement like her famous French relative (but without sparking a revolution). The Spanish queen appointed CREED her perfumer on June 25, 1885, knowing that CREED, then more than 100 years old, was a choice at once elegant and popular across Europe.

A portion of proceeds from U.S. sales of CREED’s newest fragrance, Aventus, benefits the nonprofit organization American Rivers, the leading conservation group fighting for healthy rivers. Founded in 1973, American Rivers has more than 65,000 members and supporters. Its work protects rivers for the benefit of people, wildlife and nature. Among the organization’s key efforts is working to obtain the Wild and Scenic Rivers designation granted by the government to protect rivers from harmful development and to safeguard their water. The organization also compiles a highly regarded annual report on America’s Most Endangered Rivers (TM), among other activities.
