Both master perfumer Olivier CREED and his son, Erwin, maintain very active lives when not at work in their fragrance workshop in the French countryside. Many times, their adventurous leisure activities influence their creation of new fragrances for clients.
For example, CREED father and son are avid and competitive skiers, usually in the Swiss Alps. The CREED fragrance Silver Mountain Water by Olivier CREED is intended to evoke the bracing air and crystalline water of the Alpine region, including the towns of Gstaad and Zermatt. Even Silver Mountain Water’s white bottle and silver cap evoke this Alpine feel.
Father and son are skilled golfers as well. Oliver CREED served on France’s national golf team in the 1980′s, and his portrait hangs in a place of honor in the Fontainebleau Golf Club. His loving homage to golf is CREED Green Valley, a fragance that evokes the lush greenery of a fine course just after sunrise, when dew is still on the grass and wind begins to stir the scents of flowering trees and plants that dot the perimeter of play.
Olivier CREED is also an accomplished horseman. In his earlier years, he engaged in all the more daring equine activities. Currently, however, like other mature riders, he competes in dressage, (known as “dresseur” in French), a less dangerous sport but one that requires intense concentration and superbly trained horses and riders.
Day to day, the CREED workshop’s rural location allows the master perfumer an occasional morning or afternoon journey on horseback, when he can take in the scenes and scents of the countryside that serve as creative inspiration. CREED clients who look closely will notice the figure of a horse with flowing mane embossed in leather on CREED’s 1.7 ounce shatterproof bottles (or atomizers).
Olivier CREED’s passion for the oceans of the world has often provided him with superb creative spark. From his sea-air fresh EROLFA fragrance to the well-known Love In White (which takes its name from the sport of sailing) to Virgin Island Water, oceans and the winds above them have proved a nearly endless source of enchantment and creative drive for Olivier CREED. In addition to yachting for leisure, the CREEDs travel by boat whenever possible on business as well, for example, to acquire fragrant ingredients around coastal Europe.
Erwin CREED, now 29, is an accomplished race car driver. He has competed in the 24-hour race held annually at Belgium’s Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. He has also taken the wheel in major road races in France. The speed, excitement and competition of race car driving hold great appeal for young Mr. CREED, especially on the open road when nature is close by.
Erwin CREED’s love of BASE jumping is one that he has indulged in locations all around the world, usually in settings of spectacular natural beauty, including Indonesia.
