How Long Do CREED Fragrances Last?

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Store CREED fragrances like wine.

CREED receives thousands of questions by email, phone, in person and via social media every year, and we thought we’d share answers here to some of the most commonly asked questions.

Many ask, “How long do CREED fragrances last?”

Sixth-generation master perfumer Olivier CREED is on the record as saying that authentic CREED fragrances stored properly — like wine, out of direct sunlight, in a place of moderate, consistent temperature — can last up to six years or more.  That means showering rooms are not a good place to store CREED because of the frequent increases in temperature there.

So purchase authentic CREED with the knowledge that your investment is one to enjoy for years to come.

CREED in August

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Blooms bought during CREED family travels are shipped to CREED in France.

Having shipped their latest creations — including new Royal-Oud, Original Cologne, White Flowers plus Silver Mountain Water and Love In White perfumed oils — to the United States and other countries around the world, CREED, like many family-owned companies in France, closes for the remainder of August.  Yet work does not stop.  Yachtsman Olivier CREED takes to the high seas with his son, Erwin, not merely to unwind, but also to visit Mediterranean ports that are thriving markets for fresh flowers, spices, fruits and other essences father and son will use to make new fragrances for 2012.

Purchasing the best from growers who send the bounty to Paris by the bushel or gross, CREED father and son know their summer voyage ends with an eager return to France where the natural supplies they acquired await them.  During their journey by sea, a definite port of call is the glittering Amalfi coast of Italy, where lush blooms serve as a longtime inspiration for Olivier CREED.  Look for a new fragrance in 2012 based on the native blooms of this scenic, seaside region of Italy.

CREED Green Irish Tweed, perhaps the most celebrated creation of Olivier CREED

The high spirits and good feeling of St. Patrick’s Day are brought to new heights with the wearing of classically fresh CREED Green Irish Tweed, perhaps the best known and most beloved creation of master perfumer Olivier CREED. Grand marshals of St. Patrick’s Day parades in Manhattan, Boston and Chicago were presented with bottles of Green Irish Tweed by the CEO of CREED North America last month. Held in highest esteem by their communities, these distinguished leaders are ideal recipients for this fragrant blend, at once refined, classic — and joyous. CREED is pleased to provide this signature work of Olivier CREED to them and to our loyal clientele who have made it a niche sensation for decades.

Rue Bourbon in New Orleans

Rue Bourbon in New Orleans

With roots deep in France, New Orleans is a place where French architecture, food — and fragrance — are appreciated fully. Ruled by Napoleon until he sold the region to America, New Orleans shares a rich Napoleonic past with Paris-based CREED, which made fine fragrance for members of the emperor’s family, including Napoleon III.

Today, CREED continues its association with the Crescent City of New Orleans. The firm was pleased to present the king of the 2011 New Orleans Mardi Gras parade with a bottle of CREED Aventus fragrance, the newest and best selling creation from Olivier CREED in Paris. The special hand blend that includes French Calville Blanc apples conjures the spirit of a life well lived, a most fitting sentiment for this holiday.

Olivier CREED In His Workshop

In his French workshop, Olivier CREED holds essence of rose

Sixth-generation master perfumer Olivier CREED is at work in his workshop in the French countryside, hand-blending new fragrances for release in 2011 from ingredients gathered worldwide by his son, Erwin CREED, 30, seventh generation of the house and future chief. CREED clients in the U.S. may expect more fragrances for CREED’s Royal Exclusives collection, a unique assortment intended to be a statement to the aesthetic world about the enduring value of fragrance hand blending, bottling and collecting. Each Royal Exclusive is a magnificent scent and collectible art object in one.

In addition to these crown jewels, Olivier CREED will release in the U.S. another fragrance based on some of his son’s more exotic travels and the rare and precious ingredients he hand selected along the way. And Mr. CREED reserves the right, as always, pleasantly to surprise his clients with still more fragrances in this very creative period.

Wall Street Journal praises Love in Black, Spice and Wood

CREED love in Black & Spice and Wood

CREED Love in Black & CREED Spice and Wood

The Wall Street Journal in recent days praised CREED’s Love In Black fragrance, saying it “explores the concept of Parma violets in a modern way” and CREED Spice and Wood, which the newspaper called ”masculine and assertive” yet with a “delicate” note.  The Wall Street Journal also declared Erwin CREED, 30, among “the world’s top noses.”

In the art of fragrance, “nose” means ”perfumer”.  Erwin CREED is the seventh generation of the house, still serving as apprentice to his father, master perfumer Olivier CREED, creator of the some of the firm’s most popular and artistic fragrances, including Green Irish Tweed, Millesime Imperial and Aventus.  The CREED family gratefully acknowledges the Journal’s praise, as father and son work together to craft fragrances of royal quality for their clientele, aided only by a staff of 35 who handle bottling and shipping, all together in a single, rustic location in the French countryside.

Gathering Superb Ingredients for Fragrance

Field of Flowers

The CREED family travels the world in search of
the best ingredients for fragrance

For more than 250 years an advocate of natural ingredients in fragrance, CREED has forged supply relationships with family farmers and growers of flowers, rich spices and luscious fruit on five continents to obtain the very raw materials for CREED perfumes hand-made in France.

For seven generations, the CREED family has set aside time each year to travel the world to personally inspect and compare crops, selecting only the very best for shipment to their French workshop. Whether in India for the best sandalwood in remote forests of Mysore, in Egypt’s iris fields or Virginia woods for fragrant cedar, sixth-generation master perfumer Olivier CREED and his son, Erwin, spare no expense to obtain premium components.

Today, this responsibility has been assumed by Erwin, 30, the seventh generation of the house and its future head, after more than a decade of travel and study with his father. Young Mr. CREED has traveled to over 35 countries for the company, to locations as diverse as Iceland and Indonesia, keeping quality — and sustainability — uppermost in mind in his choices of ingredients.

Windsor flacon

CREED Windsor, an archival treasure

On November 3, Erwin CREED, 29, seventh generation of the house and its future chief, will arrive from Paris to begin a US tour (dates and locations below), offering clients not only new CREED Spice and Wood, the latest in the celebratory Royal Exclusives collection, but also the legendary archival fragrance CREED Windsor, made for King Edward VIII in 1936. This is a special cache of Windsor generously blended by sixth-generation master perfumer Olivier CREED in response to persistent requests from his North American clientele who experienced a limited release of Windsor earlier in 2010, as part of CREED’s 250th celebration.

Windsor was crafted for Edward VIII from ingredients grown in the vast empire he ruled. With this extraordinary fragrance, the king held his empire in his hand.

Edward wore Windsor as king and later, after he left the throne to marry an American divorcee, the couple then known as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, superstars of international society and fashion.
