Royal Warrant Austria Hungary

Royal sensation Empress Sisi
granted CREED this imperial warrant
with her Emperor husband

A glamorous royal warrant in CREED’s 250-year archive came from Empress Elisabeth (“Sisi”) and her husband, Emperor Franz-Josef, a power couple who united Austria and Hungary into an empire they ruled jointly in the 1800′s. Throughout her long and eventful reign, Empress Sisi riveted the public with her dramatic, incomparable beauty and style.

Fine fragrance was, of course, part of her unique presence. For her, CREED made the floral masterpiece Fantasia de Fleurs, still available today.

For her husband, the emperor, CREED made Santal Imperial, a masculine statement in finest sandalwood still offered to CREED’s discerning clients.

Napoleonic Parchment

Napoleon III granted CREED this royal warrant,
now framed in the Paris boutique

As CREED celebrates its 250th year in 2010, it is opening its archives to reveal historically significant letters, client orders and royal warrants from two and a half centuries of service.

CREED was privileged to serve Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, who was elected President of France and, once in office, named himself Emperor Napoleon III, after his famous uncle, Napoleon I. Napoleon III granted CREED a royal warrant in 1855.

For Napoleon III, CREED made the fragrance Cuir de Russie, which means “Russian leather”. This CREED fragrance was a reminder of Napoleon III’s great aspiration to conquer Russia and ride home on a saddle of Russian leather.

While CREED Cuir de Russie is no longer available in the U.S., the fragrance Jasmin Imperatrice Eugenie, made for the wife of Napoleon III, is offered today.

Commission from Queen Maria Cristina of Spain

Royal Warrant: With this paper, Queen Maria Cristina of Spain named CREED her official perfumer in 1885

As CREED celebrates its 250th year, a review of its archives reveals letters and orders from royalty, statesmen, First Ladies, champion athletes, world famous artists, legendary business chiefs, headliners and other VIPs. Among these treasures are CREED’s Royal Warrants of Appointment, papers issued by kings or queens when they named CREED their official fragrance supplier. An example is CREED’s royal warrant from Queen Maria Cristina of Spain, the great niece of Marie Antoinette of France.

Queen Maria Cristina aspired to make a style statement like her famous French relative (but without sparking a revolution). The Spanish queen appointed CREED her perfumer on June 25, 1885, knowing that CREED, then more than 100 years old, was a choice at once elegant and popular across Europe.
