Candles for a New Year & Any Celebration

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Celebrate Chinese new year with CREED's Pekin Imperial candle from Paris.

Celebrating a new year, romance, marriage — or the simple joy of being at home – is finer with CREED’s luxury candle assortment that charms the air with a French accent of scent.

This week marks the Chinese new year, and CREED’s ruby-red Pekin Imperial candle is ideal for the celebration.  This hand-poured beeswax candle from Paris evokes the aroma of China’s largest palace with hand-picked spices, sandalwood, rose and verbena: pure exotic charm for any room of the home.

Three CREED candles match beloved CREED fragrances.  Green Irish Tweed, Spring Flower and Silver Mountain Water can all be enjoyed as scented candles blended in CREED’s French workshop.

CREED also offers the light and charming Cocktail de Pivoines (“Cocktail of Peonies”) scented candle, a personal favorite of the author of this blog.  CREED’s Riviera Flowers candle fills any room with fragrant blooms of warm southern France.  For a melange of finest rose and freesia, CREED’s Les Floralies candle is reverie in scent.  And CREED’s Mimosa Soleil (“Mimosa Sun”) candle has the light, uplifting aroma of mimosa flowers in sunlight, as engaging as its creator, Erwin CREED, 31, seventh generation of the house.

Now arriving in the U.S. are just under 300 masterpiece decanters of new CREED Royal Service, each personally signed by master perfumer Olivier CREED in Paris.

The beautiful Royal Service fragrance celebrates the successful start in 2011 of CREED’s next 250 years.  Royal Service is hand-blended with ingredients selected from the favorite CREED fragrances of royal and famous women CREED has served over the centuries, including Queen Victoria, Evita Peron and two First Ladies of the United States.  Presented in a keepsake French white box, Royal Service is the most superb holiday possession for today’s accomplished women.

Olivier CREED In His Workshop

In his French workshop, Olivier CREED holds essence of rose

Sixth-generation master perfumer Olivier CREED is at work in his workshop in the French countryside, hand-blending new fragrances for release in 2011 from ingredients gathered worldwide by his son, Erwin CREED, 30, seventh generation of the house and future chief. CREED clients in the U.S. may expect more fragrances for CREED’s Royal Exclusives collection, a unique assortment intended to be a statement to the aesthetic world about the enduring value of fragrance hand blending, bottling and collecting. Each Royal Exclusive is a magnificent scent and collectible art object in one.

In addition to these crown jewels, Olivier CREED will release in the U.S. another fragrance based on some of his son’s more exotic travels and the rare and precious ingredients he hand selected along the way. And Mr. CREED reserves the right, as always, pleasantly to surprise his clients with still more fragrances in this very creative period.

Wall Street Journal praises Love in Black, Spice and Wood

CREED love in Black & Spice and Wood

CREED Love in Black & CREED Spice and Wood

The Wall Street Journal in recent days praised CREED’s Love In Black fragrance, saying it “explores the concept of Parma violets in a modern way” and CREED Spice and Wood, which the newspaper called ”masculine and assertive” yet with a “delicate” note.  The Wall Street Journal also declared Erwin CREED, 30, among “the world’s top noses.”

In the art of fragrance, “nose” means ”perfumer”.  Erwin CREED is the seventh generation of the house, still serving as apprentice to his father, master perfumer Olivier CREED, creator of the some of the firm’s most popular and artistic fragrances, including Green Irish Tweed, Millesime Imperial and Aventus.  The CREED family gratefully acknowledges the Journal’s praise, as father and son work together to craft fragrances of royal quality for their clientele, aided only by a staff of 35 who handle bottling and shipping, all together in a single, rustic location in the French countryside.

CREED & The Royal Wedding

Kate Middleton and Prince William

CREED gave Ms. Kate Middleton the first bottle of Royal Ceylan in 2006

News of the April 2011 wedding of Prince William of England and Kate Middleton has been received happily around the world. CREED is honored to celebrate its gift to the future princess: In June 2006, CREED sent Ms. Middleton the first bottle of Royal Ceylan, the delicate fragrance made with lotus flowers from the island nation known as Ceylan in French, Ceylon in English — and otherwise called modern Sri Lanka. The special fragrance that also includes ginger from Jamaica and absolute of green tea was presented in a 1.7-ounce shatterproof spray, wrapped in brightly patterned leather. A messenger from CREED was dispatched with the special gift for Ms. Middleton.

The lotus flower of Ceylon is rich with meaning. A symbol of purity, serenity and beauty, it was stitched in jewels into the coronation gown of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, who as Great Britain’s monarch was also modern-day Queen of Ceylon.

Serving First Ladies

White House

CREED has been privileged to serve several First Ladies

Democrat or Republican, the appreciation of fine hand-made fragrance transcends party lines.  Paris-based CREED, founded in 1760, has been honored to serve several First Ladies of the United States, and personal correspondence from these important women — letters now on display at the CREED boutique at Madison Avenue at 67th Street in New York (1.877.273.3344) — are among the most interesting and treasured items in CREED’s 250-year archive.

Sometimes, CREED’s loyal service to a chief executive’s wife predates the couple’s White House years.  So it was more than a century ago, when the wife of a famed Governor contacted CREED to make a fragrance using the Bulgarian tea roses she found in a London market during her honeymoon abroad.  CREED obliged with Fleur de The Rose Bulgare, a fragrance of romance and sophistication CREED’s distinguished client wore when her husband became President.

In more recent times, two First Ladies of the U.S. of different political parties have both worn CREED Love In White, which is why it is sometimes called, “the White House fragrance”.
